ATMATA is an NGO which is established in 1991 and registered with the Government of Kerala in 1993 as a Charitable Society under No.K-453/93. ATMATA is the abbreviation of the ‘Archdiocesan Temperance Movement for awareness and Treatment of Addicts’. It is an organization for promotion of health and prevention of health hazards. ATMATA is an NGO working for the prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse, and HIV/AIDS through Awareness, Counselling, Treatment, After Care, Follow up, A A and Rehabilitation. Our target area is the union territory of the Republic of India. The administrative body of the organization consists of Patron (The Archbishop), Co-Patron, Director, Asst. Director, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Board of Directors, General Body and Temperance Committe of the Pastrol Council. Atmata has also established the Forane level Zonal Organizing bodies and the Parish level Local units in its organizational structure. Meetings of the Director Board are being held quartely and the General Body Meeting once in a year.

ATMATA runs two De-addiction Centres and one Rehabilitaion Centre in Kerala and ATMATA is the State Coordinationg office of the Federation of Indian NGOs for Drug Abuse Prevention. Our Director Fr Thomas is the present National President of this federation which is consisted of 485 NGOs who runs De-addiction Centres Sponsored by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India

Vision and Mission

Having received the mandate from Jesus Christ the divine healer to ensure life in its fullness and inspired by His compassionate love, ATMATA envisages a healthy society where people especially those who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, Drug abuse and other afflictions attain and maintain holistic well being, quality of life and triple reconciliation with God, self and one another and thus free form sin and sickness.

• To stand as a nodal coordinating agency for the health promotion activities under the Archdiocese of Changanacherry.

• To help the addicts and HIV positives to impart behaviour change through counselling, motivation, treatment, follow up, rehablilitation.

• To help in carrying out research, book publishing and to conduct training courses on addiction, HIV/AIDS and other health problems.

• To help the people to prevent Drug abuse, HIV infection and to reduse stigmatization and discrimination through mass education.

• To Network with other NGOs and institutions in the similar field.

• To carry out activities and programmes for the up keep and welfare of the women, children and youth.

• To carry out programmes for the care and support of the underprevilaged, marginalized and the afflicted, especialy those who are infected/ affected with HIV.

• To carry out activities among the rural folk and urban slum dwellers, for their health promotoin through providing clean drinking water, sanitation, awareness programmes etc.

• To develop and adopt cyber technology for the enhancement of communication skills in the fields of health promotion.
